Nel 1926 l’architetto piacentino Giulio Ulisse Arata fu padre di una ristrutturazione in stile “neo-medioevale” che integrò alcuni particolari delle strutture del XV e del XVI secolo di Casa Mainetti- Sanmarchi e Palazzo Salimbeni. In 1926 Giulio Ulisse Arata, an architect from Piacenza, was the instigator of a "Neo-Medieval" style renovation on some details of the 15th and 16th century structures of Casa Mainetti – Sanmarchi and Palazzo Salimbeni.
Tra le curiosità architettoniche dell’edificio vi è la “mensola di macigno” (risalente al XVI secolo) che domina ancora oggi l’angolo tra via Marchesana e via de’Foscherari.The architectural features of the building include the "mensola di macigno" (dating back to the 16th century) which still dominates the corner between Via Marchesana and Via de' Foscherari.

Innalzata tra il XII e il XIII secolo, questa torre rappresenta una delle 20 torri gentilizie ancora in piedi nel centro storico di Bologna. Le sue facciate sorgono su via Marchesana, rivisitate nei secoli ma splendide come in origine.Built between the 12th and 13th century, this tower represents one of the 20 towers built by wealthy families still standing in the centre of Bologna.Its façades are in Via Marchesana and have been touched up over the centuries but are still as splendid as they originally were.
Le buche pontaie e il perimetro sono particolari immutati del progetto medioevale, a differenza della porta ad arco ogivale risalente alla fine del ’300. La Torre dei Carrari è un simbolo ancora vivo del passato glorioso di questa città, dove le famiglie si contendevano il prestigio conquistando metri di cielo.
The putlog holes and perimeter are unchanged features of the medieval design, unlike the ogival arched door which dates back to the end of the 14th century.
